Shelf Gala 2018
On Saturday 7th July 2018 we have another reasonably successful gala both in numbers attending and funds raised. It should have been a fantastic gala, the weather was fantastic all day but we were competing with the World Cup, the game on was Sweden v England, the score was 2 nill to England and so England progressed through to the semi-finals. At 2.45pm the crowd attending the gala diminished drastically. We knew this would happen and tried our best to keep the crowd there. We started the five a side football competition early so that it was finished in time for the Sweven v England match to kick off and set up a 50 inch TV in a large gazebo so that people could watch it and been law abiding we also purchased a TV licence for the day. It kept a few there and the gala and entertainment went on.

On stage and in the arena we had some great entertainment in the form of 'Singcere' - a Reggae, Soul & Motown, a great local duo, Imperial Crusaders Marching Band from Halifax, local dance group The Magpie Movers, Dance Stars, York Birds of Prey and Halifax RLFC Cheerleaders. The whole arena programme ably managed by our announcer, Pete Brierley.

All the preparations went fine, again we used the new layout for the stalls stalls which seems to work well again. This year the procession started at Witts Car Park, left on Halifax Road to Bridle Stile. This year we had to employ the services of a traffic management company and although shorter than the original procession it enabled us to still include it as it is a big part of Shelf Gala. Unfortunately it doesn’t go all through the village. We also now have a number of walking floats which include small children so probably the original route would be too long. This year, due to the good weather and condition of Shelf Hall Park we could went all the way down Bridle Stile for the procession to enter the arena.

A big thank you once again to our sponsors Harron Homes, Interface, Blackshaw Holdings, Halifax VW, National Breakdown and anothr big thank you to Witts for use of their car park to assemble and start the procession. Another big thank you to all the advertisers in our programme who support us year after year.
